Business Hours & Holidays

Business Hours

Business hours define either your companies working hours or the working hours of your customers. Unlike "real world" hours, business hours run from a preset start time to an end time. Any timers that rely on business hours pause at the end time and resume on the next active day.

In a support center with only a single shift it makes the most sense to use your center's opererating hours as the base for your business hours. In the diagram below, we can see the business hours for a single shift support center. The teal color band represents the working hours of the support center while the dark blue color represents the off hours for the center. In the example below, a case with an SLA of 4 business hours starts at 5pm, pauses at 6pm (the end of the business day), restarts at 9am (the start of the next business day) and then breaches at noon.

In a support center with multiple shifts (or geographically seperated centers) it may make work better to have business hours based on where your customers are located so that their working hours line up correctly with a single business hour. For example having seperate business hours for customers in London, New York and Los Angeles with the start and end time being the same but the timezone differing

When doing a model where each Case could have a different business hour be mindful of the hierachy of the business hours[2].

Holidays

Holidays act as exceptions to your business hours. They can be a single full day, multiple days or even span a couple of hours. If a holiday includes the business hours of a Case then the milestone pauses the same way it does when exiting the end of a business day.

If you use business hours, it is completely optional to use holidays
